答案就是Alan Kotok 和 Robert Alan Saunders 這兩位畢業於美國麻省理工學院（MIT）的計算機科學家。他們在上世紀60年代初憑藉在電子遊戲領域的卓越創新而廣受矚目。那時，雖然視頻遊戲早已出現，但由於操作按鈕緊貼在屏幕上，玩家操控起來十分不便。爲了改善遊戲體驗，身爲《Spacewar!》主要創造者的Kotok 和 Saunders 破舊立新，設計出一種配有所有《Spacewar!》所需操縱桿的遠程控制裝置，並通過線纜與遊戲設備相連。這樣，兩個相同的控制器就能連接到同一臺電視上，確保多名玩家可以一起遊戲，彼此不會相互干擾。

於是乎，史上第一款遊戲手柄由此誕生，並在接下來的時間裏經過無數次改良和發展，逐漸演變成如今如PlayStation 5 的DualSense這樣的先進產品，不僅具備無線連接功能，而且還集成了炫彩LED燈光、可充電電池、麥克風、揚聲器、觸感反饋和機械觸發鍵等諸多特性。
